Before I got primarily interested in car modeling my subjects were military models in scale 1/35. This model is a M113 troop carrier I built when I was 12 or 13 years old. It's Tamiya kit with some extra supplies added. Figures are straight from the box. I believe weathering was made with brown paint mixed with some celluclay and white glue. Next is an angry looking Tamiya M48A3 tank. I was probably 14 when I built this. It's Tamiya kit with Eduard photo etched detail parts and some extra supplies added to the turret basket and on top of the engine compartment. Mutt jeep with a 155mm recoilless rifle. The model is based on Academy Ford Mutt kit, which was backdated to Vietnam era. The rifle set is a resin conversion from Verlinden Productions. I believe this one won a junior award at IPMS show, so I must have been 15 or 16 when this model was finished. Then some water craft. First a Tamiya Pibber River Patrol Boat, which you've probably seen in the movie Apocalypse Now. I note that I've painted some metal paint chips on the deck at the time, but I think this vessel is made of fiberglass, so those chips are a bit out of the place then... And finally a civilian vessel, a Vietnamese river sampan made from a Verlinden resin kit. I think I painted the logs with oil paints. I was planning to make a diorama with this boat and the Pibber, but for some reason I never got started with it. This baby won a first prize in its class in IPMS show in 1996. 30.6.2003 |
