Ari Vatanen won the first rally of Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 in 1000 Lakes Rally of 1984. Tamiya's kit needs little extra work if you want to make it as the 1000 Lakes car. The most visible difference is the rally markings. Tamiya provides decals only for Vatanen's 1985 Monte Carlo car and Timo Salonen's 1985 Greece car so you'll have to make the 1000 Lakes decals yourself. Other differences I know are the absence of the screens and brake cooling air scoops from the front bumper and Recaro type rally seats.

The body was painted with Tamiya TS26 Pure White spray straight from the can and polished when dry. Door seams etc were darkened with Tamiya acrylic Smoke. The door numbers, Okobank-texts and the rally plate on the bonnet were printed with laser printer on clear decal sheet and added on top of yellow pieces of decal.

Front light reflectors were airbrushed with Alclad2 Chrome and light bulbs were added from pieces of round plastic rod. You can also see that the front spiler has snapped in half in the middle. Fortunately front registration plate will cover the seam.

The laser printer left some smudges on the decals, but that was the best I could do with my equipment. I think it wont show too badly after I finish the car with light weathering.

I added oil hoses and sparkplug wires to the engine because the engine room looks really empty without any extra detailing.

Intercooler airbox has been covered with Fujimi kevlar decal. Oilhoses have been routed through holes in the rear bulkhead to the oil coolers.

Some of the parts were painted with Alclad2 polished aluminium.

Hex flanges were colored blue with a feltpen ment for overhead transparents.

Original driver side door and a detailed one.

Dashboard. Holes on the steering wheel were drilled open and a piece of wire was added to the steering column.

Interior floor. Some hoses and wires were added on the middle console and a microphone for the radio was made from a piece of plastic. Foot supports were snatched from Studio27's Peugeot 205 Ev2 transkit's etched sheet.

1000 Lakes Pug had Recaro seats instead of Sparcos included in the kit. Actually I believe co-driver's seat was a little bit different than driver's seat, but I didn't know how it looks so I cut corners and used similar seats for both. Studio27's white metal seats are moulded quite roughly and need some clean up. Also the seatbelt holes need to be reshaped to look correct for this car.
