Kit: Hasegawa CR-30 |

Lancia 037 has always been one of my favourite rally cars, so almost as soon as Hasegawa had released its kit I bought myself one. The kit comes with Martini markings for Markku Alen's winning car of 1984 Rallye Tour de Corse. Although the kit is relatively new its detail level is quite sparse in places. Especially the engine compartment needs additional detailing to look realistic. I added quite a few details to the car. Some of the details have been made from scratch, some were taken from Hasegawa's own after market detail set, which provides some small details in etched metal. I painted the kit using mostly Tamiya acrylic paints. Hasegawa's decals (printed by Cartograph) were a bit brittle and hard to conform, but with help from Microscale decal setting & solvent and some scalpel cuts I managed to get them on nicely. I didn't add any clear coat on the model, but I gave it a light weathering by airbrushing a mix of flat black, grey and brown to the lower parts and undersurface of the model. As references I used Reinhard Klein's books "Rally Cars" and "Rally" (both of which are in my opinion an essential source for rally car modeler and good value too), an old book "Lancia Racing" plus miscellaneous pictures in magazines and in the net. Since the pictures were taken I've added Rothmans-texts to the blue areas near the car numbers. The kit doesn't provide these markings and they have also been retouched from the box top photo probably in order to save kids from the harms of tobacco...
